A while ago, just before the cold front hit Gauteng, we did something I've been dreaming of for a while after I saw this shoot. Nikolai is turning one in July (which feels absolutely unreal and slightly terrifying at once) and we had an off Saturday, so Herno, Nikolai and I drove until we found a spot, pulled over and got a few shots. It turned out so much better than I hoped — this is true, raw, carefree and I can't stop looking at these photos.
I'm steering my work with families more in this direction as it just feels so amazing to create something so honest, especially if it's for yourself.
This is us. My two favourite people and I. The most endearing baby boy, a spectacular father/partner and a very contented woman.
